Over-reacting

This is a topic that is very close to my own heart. It seems to me that so many people over-react about the little things in life that they never get to enjoy the more important things, like friendship. It is so sad that they can not seem to get over little things and look at the big picture.

In my news feed on MSN there was the story of a 13 year old boy who was interviewed by the police for throwing an apple at another student at his school. The father of the child said, "They came round here being brutish and bullying and scared my children very late on a Saturday night." In my opinion this is a gross over-reaction from the parents of the other child. It was reported that the apple caused a slight bruise but to report a 13 year old boy to the police over a thrown apple is just ridiculous. Furthermore the police forced the young boy to sign a piece of paper saying he would never do it again. It is a plain view at what our society has become and how such a small thing can be blown way out of proportion.

Also, just one more thing to mention on this topic, so many people over-react when you are joking about something! These people need to just chill out and relax a bit and learn to be slightly less paranoid. Not everyone is out to kill you or hurt you ALL the time.

And on to something I am enjoying, 1984 by George Orwell. I have just finished it and, although I do not agree with the ending, it is a truly compelling book. At times whilst reading this I struggled to put it down and found myself reading until the early hours of the morning. 1984 is, of course, a classic and was finished in 1948, hence the name 1984. The story its self is Orwell's view of the future if what he sees happening continues. It is a very political book but you don't need to be politically-minded to enjoy reading it. I am a fan of George Orwell, as some of you may know because of the reference in my title. I encourage you to read this book, whether for the first time or for the hundredth. If you have already read this book and don't wish to read it again, although I can not see why not, you may wish to try A Brave New World, another classic. Both books are personal views of the future, A Brave New World is, to some extent, more extreme than 1984 however. Should you have any suggestions as to books that you think I would enjoy please leave a comment.

Finally onto something of a slightly lighter feel, and yes, I am afraid this is a game. It is of course the Sims 3! I expect that all of you will at least have heard of the wonderful and creative game franchise of the Sims. It is my opinion that it is one of the best games currently out there. Others may talk about CoD or WoW but in my opinion the Sims is a much more well-rounded game. For those of you that say that I'm a girl so of course I would think this way, I would like to reply that I don't think all of these games are bad, I love Oblivion, but just that Sims has a much wider audience. At the minute I am enjoying their new expansion pack, Generations. The addition of this to the game has dramatically increased the number of interactions that your Sims can perform on a daily basis, both with objects and with other Sims. The next expansion pack is going to be Pets and will include a much wider range of pets than the Sims 2 expansion pack under the same name did.

Please remember that you are free to leave a comment if you wish to do so.

Peace out,
Abi
